January 29th marked 2 years since the shooting at Le Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec, which took the lives of 6 Muslims.
MP Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet (Hochelaga, QC - NDP) acknowledged that the anniversary of this tragedy is a painful day for the Muslim community and offered support to the survivors of the attack. MP Gary Anandasangaree (Scarborough-Rouge Park, ON - Lib) called for a re-commitment to fighting Islamophobia and all other forms of hate and discrimination in Canada; while MP Gerard Deltell (Louis-Saint-Laurent, QC - Con) emphasized that we must not turn a blind eye to the actions that can lead to such tragedies.
In addition, Members of the House observed a moment of silence to honour the victims of the Quebec mosque shooting.
Bill C-57 (Federal Sustainable Development Act)
Amendments to Bill C-57 proposed by the Senate were tabled in the House of Commons this week. Bill C-57 is a reflection of the Government of Canada’s commitment to sustainable development and safeguarding the interests of future generations by ensuring federal organizations develop appropriate strategies for sustainable development.
The Senate amendments proposed additional transparency and oversight measures and enhanced accountability from federal organizations. After a debate, the motion respecting the Senate amendments was passed.
