The 42nd Ontario general election is scheduled to take place on June 7th, 2018.
The provincial government plays a vital role in the lives of Ontarians by managing key services such as healthcare, education and transportation. Key responsibilities of the Province also include infrastructure, affordable housing and the overall state of the economy.
Given the impact provincial services have on our everyday lives, it is imperative to vote. With over 500,000 Muslims calling Ontario home, our community has an obligation to determine how and by whom our province is governed.
2015 was a landmark year for Canadian Muslims. For the first time in Canadian history, 79% of eligible Canadian Muslims cast a ballot in the federal election – well above the national average of 67%. We hope to build on this momentum and show our fellow Ontarians that our community is active and engaged.
In 2014, voter turnout for the Ontario general election was only 52%. The Canadian-Muslim Vote will be working with the community to Get Out The Vote on June 7th. Building on our accomplishments in the federal election in 2015, our goal is to see Canadian Muslims in Ontario voting well above the provincial average.
The Canadian-Muslim Vote, together with our partners, will be hosting a series of civic engagement events across Ontario to help the community understand the importance of voting in the provincial election. In addition to these events, a variety of educational tools will be available through our website and social media platforms to help Canadian Muslims in Ontario make an informed decision at the ballet box.
