Mississauga Mayor Election Op-Ed

The Mississauga by-election on June 10th ended with the victory for Carolyn Parrish as Mayor and Natalie Hart as Ward 5 Councillor.

The Canadian Muslim Vote (TCMV) congratulates Mayor Parrish and Councillor Hart for their wins and looks forward to working with them.

During this election season, TCMV worked diligently to spread awareness of the election and various campaign platforms to help voters cast an informed ballot. 

We hosted interviews with all four frontrunners of the mayoral race: Dipika Damerla, Alvin Tedjo, Carolyn Parrish, and Stephen Dasko on core issues that matter to our community and for all Mississaugans.

Muslims in the House (Oct. 26th - Nov. 6th)

As-salāmu ʿalaykum, --

As the world has slowly begun to reopen in spite of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we need to continue to maintain our physical distance and follow provincial guidelines. The situation is fluid, as it’s currently underway into its second wave, Ontario is reporting an approximate daily increase to 900 new cases. Medical experts believe these numbers will grow as the weather gets cooler. We pray for your safety and ask you to do the same. 

This week, Muslims in the House covers events for the week ending November 6th. We touch on foreign affairs, specifically relating to the Uyghurs, Conflict Between Armenia and Azerbaijan, COVID-19, and the Secure Air Travel Act.

Muslims in the House - Sept 23 - Oct 2, 2020

As-salāmu ʿalaykum, --

What started off as just an extension of March Break, turned out to become the most challenging few months for all Canadians - young and old. It is important to address that the greatest challenge is that as of right now, as the world has slowly begun to reopen in spite of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we need to continue to maintain our physical distance and follow provincial guidelines. The situation is fluid, as it’s currently underway into its second wave, Ontario is reporting an approximate daily increase of 600 new cases. Medical experts believe these numbers will grow in the coming flu season. We pray for your safety and ask you to do the same.

In 1995, I came to this country from Sudan with my parents, 3 siblings and with hope for a more stable life. My parents, a father educated in nutrition and a stay at home mom, gave up a community and in some ways their own lives to establish themselves here in Canada.
