By-election:

By-election is an election to fill a vacancy in the House of Commons in the middle of a term. Former Liberal MP David Lametti resigned in January 2024 after being cut from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Cabinet.

Voting Date:

Monday, September 16, 2024 from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm

Advance Polls:

Friday, September 6 to Monday, September 9; from 9 am to 9 pm

How to Vote?

Vote early at local Elections Canada office:

Location: 8200 George Street, 2nd Floor LaSalle, QC H8P 3T6

Hours of operation:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 am to 9 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am to 6pm
  • Sunday: 12 pm to 4 pm

Vote by mail (special ballot voting):

For any voter who cannot or does not want to vote at an advance or election day poll. Also for voters who are away from their riding.

  • Voter has to write the first and last name of the candidate they’re voting for instead of choosing from a list.
  • If you are voting in person at an Elections Canada office, you can drop the envelope in a ballot box.
  • If you're voting by mail, follow the instructions that you received with your voting kit, and return your ballot using the pre-addressed return envelope.
  • Make sure that Elections Canada receives your ballot by election day at 6 pm.

Apply for a special ballot by visiting the local Elections Canada office, mailing/faxing a paper application, or applying online.

  • Deadline to apply online or to Elections Canada in Ottawa: Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 6 pm EST
  • Deadline to apply to the local Elections Canada office: Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 6 pm local time

Assistance at home for electors with disability:

Electors who are unable to vote or read using a special ballot process due to a disability can, upon request, vote at home. Contact the local Elections Canada office before Tuesday, September 10, 6 pm to request the service.

Identification

Option 1: Show a Driver’s license or other card issued by the Canadian (federal, provincial, or local) government with a photo, name, and current address.

Option 2: Show two pieces of ID (both must have your name, and one must have your current address):

  • Voter information card and bank statement
  • Utility bill/mail and student ID card
  • List of ID accepted

Option 3: If you don’t have ID, you can declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and is assigned to your polling station vouch for you. The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address. A person can vouch for only one other person.

Who can Vote?

You can vote if you:

  • Are a Canadian citizen
  • Are at least 18 years old on election day
  • Have been a resident in the Home riding of LaSalle-Émard-Verdun since July 29, 2024

Voter Registration

Online: Use the Online Voter Registration Service to register or update your address.

In person: Register and vote at the local Elections Canada office by September 10, 6 pm. You can also register at your assigned polling station when you go to vote on advance polling days or on election day.

Am I registered? Registered voters receive a voter information card in the mail. The card confirms you are registered, and it also tells you where and when you vote. Check online to see if you're registered.

Updating Voter Information

Update your address using the Online Voter Registration Service.

For other changes such as name change, visit the local Elections Canada office by Tuesday, September 20, 6 pm.

You can also update your voter information at the assigned polling station before you vote on advance polling days or on election day.
